  • Vehicle Preparation and Window Cleaning

    When we begin our window tint film installation process at The Works Auto Center, the first step involves thoroughly cleaning the windows to ensure there is no surface dust, debris, or residue from any other contamination present. Because window tint film products get installed on the INSIDE surface of your vehicle’s windows, windshield, or rear windshield, any contaminants present on the glass surface can and WILL interfere with the adhesion of the window tinting material. Our detailers implement specialized detailing solutions and tools to achieve a decontaminated, smooth surface.

  • Window Tint Film Application

    Once the inside surfaces of the windows of your vehicle are clean and dry, the window tint film package that you select here at The Works Auto Center is carefully measured and cut to the EXACT size needed for each window. Once we measure and cut, each piece of the film is then gently placed on the inside surface of each applicable window. A mixture of water and soap is sprayed on both the film and the glass to facilitate proper positioning and to prevent the film from adhering prematurely so everything is seamless. During this process, we then adjust to ensure proper alignment and fit as needed.

  • Assessing the Quality and Drying

    After the window tint film package has been correctly positioned on your glass surfaces, we take a squeegee to press out any remaining air bubbles or water trapped between the film and the glass before it cures. Following this meticulous system of checks and balances, and as soon as our team checks to be sure the film has successfully adhered to those surfaces, the window tint film needs time to fully dry and set. This drying period allows the adhesive to bond effectively with these interior glass surfaces, ensuring a long-lasting and professional finish.

Following the Rules: Window Tint Film Regulations in New York

While it is your job to drive and enjoy the vehicle that you own here in the Albany, New York area, it is our job here at The Works Auto Center to make sure it is not only quality but safe for the roads. Window tint film application is a precise technique that will undoubtedly enhance the value of your vehicle, both aesthetically and functionally. However, we also want to make sure that it is doing so legally, so we stay up to speed on all of the rules and regulations surrounding window tinting across the state of New York. 


Some of the more straightforward rules regarding window tinting on any given vehicle include the following:


Any type of tinting on your vehicle's windshield, which includes the window strip or the full windshield itself, must allow for up to 70% of visible light transmission at all times. The various types of vehicles that this includes covers small sedans up to larger vehicles, such as trucks, SUVs, or vans. Also for all size vehicles, the front driver and passenger side windows can be tinted; however, 70% of visible light transmission must be considered for all of these as well. The rear windows and windshield on sedans and smaller vehicles must allow again for 70% VLT, while larger vehicles can be as dark as you please.


Many customers that have patronized The Works Auto Center have also inquired about window tint reflectiveness. To cover all bases at once, all size vehicles cannot have any metallic or mirrored appearance about any part of their window tint film package.
